The Charlevoix area is bounded by Lake Michigan to the west. A cluster of smaller inland lakes dots the surrounding landscape. In this place where sandy beaches, clear waters, and lush forests create a haven from the frenzy of everyday life, you’ll find a group of thriving wineries. While each winery is unique, they share a common bond. They flourish because of their strong sense of family and dedication to meeting the challenges that come with growing grapes in Northern Michigan’s distinctive climate.

Spare Key Winery is one of only a handful of Northern Michigan wineries to grow all its own grapes and produce all of its own wine on-site at their estate. They credit the support of family and friends for their success. Starting out with just 400 vines in 2011, Spare Key Winery continues to expand. They invite you to come sample their wine and be a part of the Spare Key family at their Charlevoix vineyard.

1918 Cellars Tasting Room and Bistro is located at beautiful Castle Farms in Charlevoix. The centerpiece of the farm is a castle constructed at the turn of the 20th century, modeled after the castles of France. Housed in one of the farm’s beautiful outbuildings, the tasting room at 1918 Cellars offers a unique experience featuring their own line of Northern Michigan-produced wines. Visitors to 1918 Cellars are invited to enjoy the lovely gardens and rich history of Castle Farms with a tour during their visit.

The Cellars of Royal Farms, a family-owned winery and cidery, the Cellars uses in-season Michigan-grown fruit to produce their wines and ciders. Their hard ciders are made from vintage and rare apple varieties grown in their own orchard. Sip wine or enjoy their hard cider in their tasting room. If you prefer, relax on their outdoor patio while taking in Northern Michigan’s beautiful countryside. You can also sample their farm-to-table food offerings, pasties, and homemade pies. Their farm is located in Ellsworth. Cellar 1914 is on land purchased by the Shook family over 100 years ago and first used to produce cherries. The original 60 aces have grown to 1,100 acres. When they decided to start growing grapes, they chose special varieties that grow well in the Northern Michigan climate. Today their vineyard produces over 600 tons of grapes each season. When you visit their tasting room, they invite you to see their production facility and tour their grounds as well. Their main location is in Central Lake. They also have a tasting room in East Jordan.
